For such a small island, Matia is a striking presence---a green-topped tower jutting out from the blue water below. As you approach, you can’t help but marvel at the steep sandstone cliffs, and the towering mass of trees stacked atop them in a way that seems almost precarious.

Tie off at a mooring buoy and make your way up the ramp to the island. Before you do, listen. For such a quiet place, there is so much to hear—the rhythmic sounds of the water lapping against the rocks and sand, peppered with the urgent avian calls, and the wind ceaselessly rushing through the dense tree leaves. As you make your way along through the old growth forest, you could almost forget you’re on a tiny island in Salish Sea and instead in the midst of the forests of the Washington mainland further east.

It was also important to use ingredients that have a positive social impact, and so we used Firmenich Naturals Together ingredients such as the French Carrot seeds, Egyptian Geranium, Indonesian Patchouli which are all responsibly sourced.”
